The papers contained in this issue of Polanyiana have all been written while their authors cooperated within the framework of a research-team financially supported by a grant (No.17/91-92) of the Central European University's Research Support Scheme. This help proved to be very valuable and should be appreciated here.

Another, more spiritual debt should here also be gratefully acknowledged. This the members of the research-team owe to Gabriella Ujlaki, who initiated and, until her untimely death in 1994, inspired the research work done within the framework of the grant "The Tradition of Central-European Liberal Philosophy". Let this issue be bestowed to her memory, who was a member of the team, but left us before completing her research paper.
